Throwback time: recapping 2020/2021
The summer is finally almost here, and just in time for the grand re-opening of the world. The stores are open, you can sit down for a spontaneous cup of coffee again. Have you ever seen cows seeing the sun and the green grass for the first time since the winter? (if not, we highly recommend you do so). In honor of us getting through this year, RedacCie asked a few people what their experiences were and what their dreams and wishes are for the next year. Enjoy!
If you look back at this academic year, what is something positive that has happened?
Zwenny Bosch, professor Department Psychology, Health and Technology: The most memorable things were in my opinion the classes on campus during the most strict lockdown. How special it felt being with others in these times. Be together -distanced of course - but being able to share things in person and how much everyone appreciated that. The intimacy of these moments, I will never forget those!
Marie Schroder, Candidate Commissioner of External Affairs of the 20th board of Dimensie: I think studying online also had some advantages as you could technically study from everywhere and schedule your week feely. So, I still was able to visit friends in other cities and study at other places which was fun!
Ed de Bruin, assistant professor Department of Psychology, Health and Technology: I've met many people online in collaborations and at presentations (e.g., at the Dimensie colloquium) that caused many positive relations and new opportunities.
Which movie scene can this academic year be compared to?
Christine Mulrane, Chairwoman of the 19th board of Dimensie: The scene from "die wilden hühner und die Liebe": The jam jar of good memories.
Elisa Bockholt, Commissioner of External Affairs of the 19th board of Dimensie: Kevin's Scream after applying after-shave in ‘Home Alone’.
Lotte Weernink, Candidate Commissioner of Internal Affairs of the 20th board of Dimensie: This academic year felt to me a little like the scene from the series “The Walking Dead” in which Rick wakes up all alone from a coma and feels very confused. Rick wakes up in a hospital and faces a Zombie for the first time. He decides to go to the big city ‘Atlanta’ to look for his family. Due to all the covid-restrictions of the past year, it sometimes felt to me a little like time just passed by and I couldn’t do the things that I really wanted to do, a little like being stuck in a coma. Then, at the end of this academic year, the covid restrictions ease a little bit which can be compared to waking up from a coma. As these restrictions ease I sometimes feel a little confused. Especially with the prospect that we don’t have to wear masks anymore in the shops starting Saturday. It all just seems a little unreal, whereas on the other hand it is something I cannot wait for! 😊
What are your hopes and dreams for the next academic year?
Marie Klinge, Commissioner of Internal Affairs of the 19th board of Dimensie: first, have a great time and learn a lot in my semester abroad in Italy, then finishing my bachelor's degree.
Lotte Weernink, Candidate Commissioner of Internal Affairs of the 20th board of Dimensie: I hope that the next academic year will be a lot more about getting to know new people. Something that I really have missed these past years is doing spontaneous things with new people.
Iris Ruel, Candidate Treasurer of the 20th board of Dimensie: I really hope that I can enjoy my board year to the fullest. Next to this I hope this year will be all offline, with the campus full of students and teachers.
What are you going to enjoy most this summer?
Christine Mulrane, Chairwoman of the 19th board of Dimensie: The calmness and relaxing after a year that was unexpectedly busy in the end.
Iris Ruel, Candidate Treasurer of the 20th board of Dimensie: I am going to enjoy my me-time the most. Lately, I have been very busy. So some me-time is really needed!
Marie Schroder, Candidate Commissioner of External Affairs of the 20th board of Dimensie: I will mostly enjoy to be able to travel again in Europe. I can’t wait to pack my things and travel to the coast for a surf trip and have fun!
